How It Works
Amoxycillin belongs to the aminopenicillin subclass of beta-lactam antibiotics. It works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) on the bacterial cell wall. This binding blocks the final step of bacterial cell wall synthesis, causing the cell wall to weaken and rupture. Since human cells do not have cell walls, Amoxycillin selectively targets bacteria with minimal harm to host cells. It is effective against a broad range of Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria including Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, E. coli, H. pylori, and Haemophilus influenzae.
