This includes conditions such as cold sores, genital herpes, and shingles (herpes zoster). Valacyclovir works by inhibiting the replication of the virus, helping to control the infection, reduce symptoms, and shorten healing time.

How to Use
  • Valtrex 500 mg is used for:
  • Treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) in adults
  • Treatment and suppression of genital herpes in immunocompetent individuals and HIV-infected patients
  • Reduction of transmission of genital herpes
  • Treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis)
  • Treatment of chickenpox in children (age and weight-dependent)
Dosage Information
  • Genital Herpes (initial episode): 1 g twice daily for 10 days
  • Genital Herpes (recurrent episode): 500 mg twice daily for 3–5 days
  • Suppressive therapy for genital herpes: 500 mg to 1 g once daily
  • Cold Sores: 2 g twice in one day (12 hours apart)
  • Shingles: 1 g three times daily for 7 days
  • Dosage adjustments may be required in patients with renal impairment.
Safety Information
  • Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or dehydration
  • Not recommended for individuals allergic to acyclovir or valacyclovir
  • Safety in pregnancy: Should be used only if clearly needed; consult physician
